Password Strength Checker

How strong is your password?

Password strength is estimated from entropy — bits of randomness derived from length and character variety. This checker rates a password and estimates crack time, entirely in your browser (nothing is sent anywhere). The fastest way to get stronger is almost always more length.

Frequently asked questions

How is password strength measured?
Usually with entropy — bits of randomness from length × the character-set size. More length and more character types → higher entropy → longer to crack.
Is it safe to type my real password here?
This runs entirely in your browser and never sends anything. As a habit, avoid typing real passwords into sites you don't fully trust.
What's a good entropy?
Below 40 bits is weak, 60–80 is reasonable, 100+ is very strong. Increasing length is the easiest way to raise it.

Crack-time estimates are rough approximations assuming a fast offline attack, for guidance only.
